Hannah is the Director of Communications and Engagement with United World Colleges (UWC) International based in London. UWC is a global education movement and international organisation with the mission to make education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future. UWC fulfills its mission through a network of 17 schools and colleges on 4 continents, various short programmes and a volunteer driven network of 158 national committees. Hannah oversees UWC’s global communication work and is in charge of UWC’s engagement and outreach work and all strategic partnerships. Additionally, Hannah acts as Company Secretary managing all governance and legal related matters. Hannah is an UWC alumna herself, having attended UWC Adriatic in Italy (1996-1998). Since 1998 she has been volunteering with h UWC Germany – heading for numerous year the UWC Germany Alumni Association, as well as being a Board member of the UWC Germany foundation.
By background, Hannah is a lawyer admitted to the bar in Germany, holds an MA in Mediation (Europa University Viadrina) and is an accredited mediator in Germany and the UK (CEDR). Prior to joining UWC International, Hannah worked with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) at its headquarters in Paris. After first working with the ICC International Court of Arbitration, Hannah then became in charge of the International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) of the ICC. In her role as Senior Council and Manager she was in charge of an international team of lawyers which administered all mediation, conciliation, expertise, dispute board and other ADR cases filed with the ICC. She was one of the main drafters of the new ICC Mediation Rules, as well as the Investor-State-Mediation Rules of the International Bar Association (IBA). While working with ICC, Hannah was also in charge of the ICC International Mediation Competition – the world’s biggest educational event in cross-border commercial mediation, an event which brought to of her passions together: education and mediation.
Hannah has been invited to speak at conferences across the world on mediation and ADR, taught mediation and ADR in Germany and France and is a member of the Independent Standards Commission of the International Mediation Institute and Officer with the Mediation Committee of the International Bar Association. She was also invited to be a member of the Informal Advisory Board of the European Institute for Peace during its initial work. In 2009, she was recognized by the International Board Association with an honorary mention as “Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year”.In 2017, Hannah was appointed as one of ten members worldwide to the ICSID List of Conciliators designated by the Chairman of the Administrative Council of the Worldbank and is currently sitting as a concilitors in an ICSID case.
Hannah has lived – apart from the UK where she is based now – in Italy, Belgium, France, Portugal and the US and speaks English, French, Italian and her native German. Her passion to use education to create a more peaceful world and to teach students to celebrate the value of diversity gets her out of bed in the morning – and her love for theatre, painting, hiking, yoga, travelling and her friends keep her (most of the time) in balance.
