Towards Creating Mediation Stand-By Capacity for the EU: 2nd Expert Seminar

MediatEUr's project 'Creating Improved Capacities for International Peace Mediation' hosted the second in a series of meetings exploring needs and options for EU stand-by capacity for mediation. Aim of the expert seminar was to support the implementation of the EU's 2009 Concept on Strengthening Dialogue and Mediation Capacities, by looking at several stand-by capacity models that could be adapted for this purpose.

The seminar brought together rapid civilian deployment experts; EEAS officials; mediation experts; and EU member state representatives. Participants were introduced to stand-by capacity models of the UK Stabilisation Unit; Coffey International; the Centre for Peace Operations; and the Norwegian Refugee Council-managed MSU Stand-By Team of Mediation Experts.

The meeting series will feed into the development of a concept on mediation stand-by capacity for the EU.
