mediatEUr hosts first Advisory Council meeting on the European Institute of Peace initiative

Today, mediatEUr hosted the first meeting of the informal Advisory Council of the European Institute of Peace (EIP) initiative. The meeting was attended by Representatives from the Governments of Sweden, Finland,Belgium and Switzerland; the European Parliament; the European Peacebuilding Liaison Office; and the International Chamber of Commerce.

Profiles of all Advisory Council members are available here. The aims of the Advisory Council are to:

  1. Identify areas of competence and relevance for the future of EIP
  2. Give critical input and substantial feedback on EIP materials aimed at creating building blocks for future EIP activities
  3. Share information among members of the Council and with their extended network of contacts
  4. Participate in EIP events and act as hosts when possible.

mediatEUr has been tasked by the Swedish and Finnish governments to facilitate a process to generate possible options for a future EIP. This includes:

  1. Identify how to mobilise and maximise capacities for peacemaking, and how to create a profile for international peace mediation for the EU;
  2. Create building blocks for future EIP activities;
  3. Facilitate debate and generate options for institutionalising this capacity to make it available to EU institutions and
  4. Produce materials to contribute to the reflection process.
