Open Space: Envisioning the Future of European Peace-Making

In order to strengthen the EU’s ability to respond global peacemaking needs, Sweden and Finland jointly launched an initiative in 2010 to advocate for the creation of a European Institute of Peace (EIP). On 27 January 2012, mediatEUr hosted a full-day Open Space event in Brussels on the creation of a European Institute of Peace. The meeting brought together 95 participants from across EU institutions, Member States, NGOs, academic institutions, think tanks and the private sector.

This Open Space provided an opportunity to engage with this initiative, and to voice a diversity of opinion on the idea of an EIP. The discussions were captured by Debategraph technology; and fed into the formulation of the paper 'A European Institute of Peace? Value-Added, Risks and Options.'
