Supporting peace mediation efforts in Nigeria

mediatEUr partner Canan Gündüz visited Nigeria to facilitate a peace mediation coaching programme in Abuja. The mission involved:

  1. A training for EU Delegation and Member State representatives. Aim was to explore the relevance of the 2009 EU Concept on Dialogue and Mediation for conflict resolution in Nigeria; and to assess mediation support options for the international community.
  2. A capacity-building workshop for a group of Nigerian peace activists from Plateau State, including representatives from the Governor's office, religious organisations, civil society groups and academia. Workshop aim was to identify mediation priorities in Plateau State; discuss mediation practice and support needs; and coordination among different actors involved in peace efforts in the State.
