mediatEUr Miguel Varela attends conference by IDEA, UNU-CRIS and UNECA

mediatEUr Miguel Varela attended the conference organised by International IDEA (International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance), UNU-CRIS (United Nations Institute on Comparative Regional Studies) and UNECA (United Nations Economic Comission for Africa).

On the second anniversary of the Arab Spring, the conference explored the potentialities and challenges created by the social movements in the Arab countries, and assessed the role that regional organisations play in the promotion of democratic governance.


The list of speakers and attendees included field experts and noted members as Dr. Hesham Youssef, Former Head of Cabinet of the League of Arab States, Secretary-General and Special Adviser to the LAS Secretary-General; Dr. Fathi Baja, Head of the Political Affairs and External Relations comittee in Lybia; Mr. Salam Kawakibi, Execute Director of the Arab Reform Initiative and President of the Initiative for a New Syria; Ms. Monia El-Abed, Founder and former President of the Tunisian Association of Female Lawyers; and Mr. Khaled Abbas, editor-in-chief of the Muslim Brotherhood Web News service.
